Astana played the first match in the final away series in the VTB United League.

The game against Avtodor was held in Samara and ended in victory for the hosts — 79:70.

Although the team of Branislav Vicentic started the game very well, subsequently, Astana was able to return to the game. In the second quarter, Avtodor won by only two points, and the third ended with a confident victory for the team of Oleg Kiselev. However, the Kazakh club still failed to win the match.

Markell Johnson again showed an excellent game (26 points, 8 rebounds), as well as Rustam Murzagaliev (12 points), Valery Likhodey (9 points, 5 assists) scored for Astana.

Today on the court, we failed to focus and concentrate for 40 minutes to win by an even greater margin. However, the team still played well and tough. The third quarter did not work out, and now we need to find an answer to why this is not happening for the first time. Of course, Newman and Machado are the leaders of this team. I knew it would be hard without them, but I trusted the Russian players, who showed a quality game today. I want to say a big thank you to them,” said Avtodor coach Branislav Vichentic after the game.

Now Astana has an exit to Krasnoyarsk ahead, where on March 19, the team of Oleg Kiselev will meet with Yenisey.
