Astana held a masterclass for academy players as part of the club’s ongoing commitment to developing youth basketball and bringing the first team closer to the next generation of players.

Taking part in the session were acting head coach Dainius Šalenga, assistant coach Anton Ponomarev, strength and conditioning coach Volodymyr Kucherenko, team captain Rustam Murzagaliyev, and first-team players Ruslan Aitkali, Alexander Orazbekov, Adas Juškevičius, and E.J. Day.

The session began with an energetic warm-up led by the strength and conditioning coach, with a focus on coordination, footwork, and getting the players properly prepared for the work ahead.

The academy players were then split into groups, each working with a first-team player. This gave them the chance to practise individual skills while getting direct advice from professionals. The groups worked on dribbling, ball-handling, and different shooting techniques, with Astana players sharing tips, correcting details, and encouraging the youngsters throughout.

The masterclass finished with games between the groups. The atmosphere quickly became competitive, with the young players showing teamwork, character, and plenty of desire to win. The final game saw the teams led by Rustam Murzagaliyev and Alexander Orazbekov face off, with Orazbekov’s team taking the win after a close contest.

At the end of the session, the first-team players recognised the standout performers in their groups. The most active and hard-working academy players received small prizes as extra motivation to keep improving.

For PBC Astana, events like this are an important part of supporting young talent. Training alongside first-team players gives academy athletes valuable experience, confidence, and inspiration to keep developing their game.
