The initiative was organised in partnership with Astana’s General Partner, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, and the club’s partner, the Tourism and Sports Industry Support Foundation.
Acting Head Coach Anton Ponomarev, team captain Rustam Murzagaliyev and centre Askar Maidyekin attended the People’s League Finals, a tournament that brings together basketball teams from children’s care homes across Kazakhstan.
The Astana delegation spent the day cheering on the young athletes before joining the post-game awards ceremony. The Children’s Support Centre team claimed the tournament title in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
After the finals, the Astana players and coaches congratulated the winners, presenting medals, trophies and gifts before spending time with the children from the support centre.
Creating opportunities like these is an important part of Astana’s work in the community. The club remains committed to supporting youth basketball, encouraging young athletes and helping create experiences that inspire the next generation.

“I didn’t expect an event on this scale. It was incredible to see so many young people here who genuinely love basketball. Teams came from almost every region of Kazakhstan, with both boys’ and girls’ competitions. Just being part of an event like this is something these kids will remember for a long time.
“It brought back a lot of memories for me. I remember what it was like standing on that podium as a young player, receiving medals from coaches I looked up to. Years later, to be the one presenting those awards is a special feeling.
“What stood out most today was the passion. You could see it in every game and in every player. They love basketball, they want to improve, and tournaments like this give them something to work towards. That’s what makes days like today so important.”
